Is a hub for learning about governance in Hawaiʻi and who we can support to improve it through voting & volunteer work. The basic components of the program are listed below.
As a Hawaiian proverb, “E ʻōpū aliʻi” refers to, “having the heart, kindness, generosity, and even-temper of a chief.”. These characteristics describe a candidate's outward actions in their commitment to privileging community needs and protecting natural resources.
To stand strong to fight for the health and wellbeing of every generation and the natural resources that sustain us, undeterred by the pull of money or political favor. These characteristics describe an unwillingness to trade favors, silence oneʻs voice in hope of future reward, or "play politics" at the expense of honesty and integrity.
Lawena Moho ʻĀina - CHARACTERISTICS
Within the Hālāwai Moho ʻĀina, folks are invited to collaborate on THIS LIST of characteristics that reflect strong foundations of ʻŌpū Aliʻi and Piepiele ʻOle. As we work to increase voter turnout and civic engagement, this platform is uplifted for communities and candidates to align on when campaigning/voting.
Hālāwai Moho ʻĀina - MEETINGS
Hālāwai Moho ʻĀina are held every other Monday at 6pm. In these meetings, topics of discussion include forward movements to support pono candidates, action items to support campaigns, plans to increase voter turnout, and kāhea ʻāina aloha that come from different communities in Kō Hawaiʻi Paeʻāina. Candidates and community members can express interest to attend by emailing aloha@ainavotes.com.
Palapala Moho ʻĀina - POLICY
The Palapala Moho ʻĀina is a collection of policy ideas that Moho ʻĀina candidates will explore and pursue in upcoming legislative sessions. This is a proactive approach to collaborating ahead of elections, and supports our communities to visualize how much better Hawaiʻi could be with pono people in positions of authority and leadership.

If there are no Moho ʻĀina currently identified in your area, we encourage you to nominate one here. Kākoʻo Moho ʻĀina - CANDIDATE SUPPORT
While the Moho ʻĀina program is NOT a political action committee, during Hālāwai Moho ʻĀina, candidates themselves are invited to request support via phone banking, canvassing, fundraising, etc. Folks who attend are invited to engage in conversations with family and friends about the Moho ʻĀina Website & Map, which is a resource to view, all at once, the best pono candidates to vote for in each district, and the values on which they stand. Those who are currently running for office that are interested in becoming Moho ʻĀina are invited to review the Papahana, Lawena, and Palapala, and express interest here.
